An Homage to 10 Years of Shanghai Fashion Week

It’s the 10th anniversary of Shanghai Fashion Week and my 3rd blogging anniversary, so I wanted to take a post to commemorate both. SFW’s big 1-0 is just around the corner, and their awesome new website has the basic details of all the shows (a major improvement over past seasons)… The lineup doesn’t look that impressive, but there are some major highlights like Vera Wang, Content 目录, Helen Lee, and the EcoChic Awards. There should also be a few shows and parties around town that aren’t officially part of SFW but some of the independent shows will probably be better than most of the govt-certified ish anyway.

So what has changed about Shanghai Fashion Week this season to mark the occasion? Well for one the venue is now an extension of the uber-commercial, touristy (read: needlessly expensive) Xintiandi district… a tent will be built partially over Taiping Lake, and I can’t complain because it was actually a pretty bomb locale last season. The only bummer is that it seems like the beautiful Fuxing Park won’t be the backdrop this season, but it’s just as well because there are always fun, interesting things going on there (when the main lawn isn’t being used for Fashion Week).

So I want to memorialize SFW’s (seemingly) final season in Fuxing Park, which took place October 2011 (SFW in April happens in a different location altogether). Here she was:

I also made this video last year and although it’s shaky and crummy, I’m still pretty proud of it. It took a lot of filming and editing to show some of the park’s most endearing qualities (or visitors, I should say), so I hope you enjoy it!
