Spring (momentarily) Hits Moganshan
So I’m guessing it’s officially Spring by now pretty much everywhere besides Shanghai. This tease of a city was in the high 80s last weekend (when I took these pictures) but is now in the 30s again, forcing us to keep our winter coats at hand.
But hopefully our hands will be freed up soon so we can use them for better things, like this:
Weather permitting, Shanghai’s inhabitants will actually shed those worn, tired, and dull outer layers for more Spring-appropriate hues that really brighten up this hazy cityscape.
It’s amazing to see what you get when you mix a little paint with some creativity and raw talent, but it wouldn’t be enjoyable if you had to deal with smog and the cold.
But I’m not entirely convinced that sweltering heat and smog is any better so here is to hoping that we actually get a real Spring this year and don’t just skip to Summer. And for those of you elsewhere in the world, let me make the erratic East Side a bit more understandable. If Shanghai was a girl she would be super temperamental, hot one minute and cold the next, and always a bit dirty (like, literally dirty).
So stop screwing us Shanghai so we can finally take off at least some of our clothes. We deserve it after being covered up all winter. It makes for better pictures, trust me.
