Rucksacks, French Concession
The sun is finally starting to pierce through the smog layer, and corresponding with the sun’s emergence is the coming out of the many characters that typically populate Shanghai’s streets in the warmer months.
Of course most of the bicyclers are still covered up given the wind chill, but if you look close you can usually find some interesting, cool details on the locals even when they’re completely covered up.
I love this guy’s whole style, but my favorite piece was undoubtedly that worn-out rucksack. I don’t know why I like nappy looking bags, but it probably is because it implies that that bag has been both well-used and well-loved, seeing the owner through many tasks and trips.
This guy’s bag is probably older than I am, but it looks like it has quite a bit of mileage before entropy takes its toll and renders it useless. But just because something is old and worn doesn’t make it valueless… In fact, I believe that the older something is, the more value it has. So don’t be too quick to throw out your old possessions when you start your spring cleaning and consider taking out some of your old stuff and mixing it with the new.
