Ricostru Fall/Winter 2013, Runway Debut in Beijing’s 798

Ricostru Fall/Winter 2013 Finale from Timothy Parent on Vimeo.

Final parade of Guangzhou-based vunderbrand Ricostru at their first-ever show, held at YOUZ in Beijing’s 798. The designer Riko is something of a prodigy, consistently creating minimal yet thoughtful garments that are incredibly comfortable to wear. It was a clean but by no means simple collection, offering pops of color and interesting contrasts that would be a welcome relief to any drab winter wardrobe. The bags were spot on, as was the custom soundtrack by music artist Ding Ke. It’s incredible to see such a young designer strike a balance between conceptual and commercial, but Riko has managed to do just that… I would wear most of the menswear, but my favorite piece was hands-down the watery metallic silver dress at the end. I don’t know if the video fully captures its awesomeness (both of that particular dress and the show as a whole), but I hope it’s a decent glimpse at Ricostru’s first show (and certainly not last)!
