Decoster FW15 at Shanghai Fashion Week, Xin Tian Di
I wasn’t expecting it, but this was one of my favorite shows so far this season. I was impressed with parts of the collection last season, but it looked like five different designers had designed the runway collection (which is exactly what happened). This year, there were three. It’s like Project Runway behind closed doors… But it was certainly more cohesive, and the brand new knitwear collection was a huge hit. Young talent, with the backing of a larger company, can really execute quickly. The problem is keeping a larger company fresh, and these three young women seem to be doing just that. It was still a bit disjointed, but I think they are finding their groove. I don’t know if there will be even fewer designers next season (perhaps there will be more), but I think finding a cohesive vision is key for the brand. I hope they end up complementing, not compromising… But if this show was any indication of their potential, then I have high hopes for the future of Decoster.
